US Chipmaker AMD Commits To Support India Semiconductor Mission, Invest $400 Million To Expand Presence In The Country

US chip maker AMD has revealed plans to invest $400 million in India, including the construction of a new campus in Bengaluru.
This campus will serve as the company's largest design centre and is expected to open by the end of 2023.
It will feature state-of-the-art collaboration tools, extensive lab space, and seating configurations designed to promote teamwork.
The announcement was made by AMD executive vice-president and Chief technology officer Mark Papermaster during the Semicon India 2023 event in Gujarat.
The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar on Friday morning.
The new Bengaluru campus will cover an area of 5 lakh square feet, expanding AMD's office presence to a total of 10 locations across New Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
"The new AMD campus is expected to open before the end of 2023 and will feature extensive lab space, state-of-the-art collaboration tools and seating configurations designed to foster teamwork," the company said in a statement on Friday (28 July).
"From a handful of employees in 2001 to more than 6,500 employees today, AMD has grown its India footprint based on the strong foundation established by our local leadership and the highly skilled talent pool,” said Mark Papermaster.
“By further investing and expanding our presence in Bangalore, we are committed to driving innovation in India to support the India Semiconductor Mission," Papermaster added.
AMD has been an active part of the semiconductor ecosystem in India since 2001 when the company’s first site was established in New Delhi, the company said.
"The new 500,000-square-foot Bangalore campus will increase the AMD office footprint to 10 total locations across these cities: Bangalore, Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Mumbai," it added.
