The central government is preparing a plan to enhance India’s wheat exports amidst disruption in global trade due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

The Union Commerce and Industry ministry is looking into potential markets like Egypt, Turkey and Italy amongst others.

Meanwhile, the Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution ministry is working towards providing sufficient storage facilities at five or more ports that have been recognised by the Central Warehousing Corp.

The Union Shipping Ministry has been asked to set up warehousing facilities at ports and also to give special preference for wheat consignments.

“We are witnessing an increase in demand for wheat and a strategy is being built up so that exporters maintain the quality of wheat being shipped out,” an officer in the know of developments was quoted by the Economic Times (ET).

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has set up a 15-member task group to put together a roadmap for the promotion of wheat exports.
