Indian Army Awaits Delayed Apache Helicopter Delivery From US Amid Growing Operational Needs

As Independence Day nears, the Indian Army's Aviation Corps is still awaiting the delivery of its first batch of Apache AH-64E attack helicopters from the United States (US), according to a report from India Today.

Initially, the plan was to receive six helicopters in two batches of three each. However, the first batch, expected between May and June, has not yet arrived in India.

Under a $600 million agreement signed with the US in 2020, the Indian Army was to receive six Apache helicopters. However, the delivery of the first batch has already been delayed by over three months."

As per the same report, this delay is attributed to some technical issues in the US. Furthermore, there is no clear timeline for when the first batch of helicopters will be delivered.

These Apache AH-64E attack helicopters are intended to play a crucial role in supporting the army’s operations on the Western front. Known for their agility, firepower, and advanced targeting systems, these helicopters are an essential addition to the Army's arsenal.

The Indian Air Force has already integrated 22 Apache helicopters from a separate deal signed in 2015, while the Indian Army is still waiting for these advanced attack helicopters to enhance its capabilities further.

These assets will enable the Indian Army's Aviation Corps to conduct various operations, including battlefield support, reconnaissance, logistics, and casualty evacuation, significantly enhancing the army's effectiveness across diverse terrains.
