The Indian Navy formally commissioned its latest shore base, INS Aravali, in Gurugram on Friday (12 September) in a ceremony led by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi.

The event began with the presentation of a 50-men Guard of Honour to the Navy chief.

Captain Sachin Kumar Singh, the first Commanding Officer of the unit, recited a Sanskrit invocation before reading the commissioning warrant.

The unveiling of the commissioning plaque was followed by the hoisting of Naval Ensign to the tune of the National Anthem.

With the last note of the National Anthem, the commissioning pennant was broken on the mast.

In his address, Admiral Tripathi described INS Aravali as a foundation for robust administrative and logistical support for the Navy’s expanding infrastructure.

He emphasised that the base would act as a hub of technology and collaboration, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of MAHASAGAR — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.

Congratulating the Commanding Officer and commissioning crew, the Navy chief exhorted them to uphold the Navy's core values of Duty, Honour, and Courage, "as you chart your course towards Excellence through Information Dominance".

INS Aravali, named after the Aravali mountain range, will provide critical support to the Navy’s information and communication centres, reinforcing India’s Command, Control, and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) framework.

Guided by the motto ‘सामुद्रिकसुरक्षायाः सहयोगं’ or ‘Maritime Security through Collaboration’, the base embodies a collaborative ethos, linking naval units, MDA centres, and allied stakeholders.

Its crest — featuring mountain imagery and a rising sun — symbolises vigilance, resilience and energy, in addition to the dawn of niche technological capabilities in the field of Communications and MDA.
