Captain Fatima Wasim of the Siachen Warriors has made history as the first woman medical officer to be deployed to an operational post on the Siachen Glacier, the Indian Army's Fire and Fury Corps announced.

In a post shared on social media platform X, the Corps celebrated Captain Wasim's remarkable achievement.

"Captain Fatima Wasim was inducted to a post at an altitude of 15200 feet after undergoing rigorous training at Siachen Battle School which speaks of her indomitable spirit and high motivation," the post read.

With the announcement, the Fire and Fury Corps also shared a video to illustrate Captain Wasim's journey and honour her significant milestone.

This announcement comes just a week after Captain Geetika Koul from the Snow Leopard Brigade became the Indian Army's first woman medical officer to serve at Siachen, the world's highest battlefield, following her successful training at the Siachen Battle School.

The Siachen Glacier, located near the India-Pakistan Line of Control, is renowned as the highest-altitude battleground on Earth.

Not only is it India's largest glacier, but it also ranks as the world's second-largest. The glacier's extreme conditions and strategic importance make it a challenging yet crucial posting for the Indian Army.
