Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone of the BRAHMOS Manufacturing Centre and the Defence Technology and Test Centre in Lucknow on Sunday (26 December).

Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath accompanied the Defence Minister during the event where the foundation of the two units established by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was set.

Moreover, the growth of the aerospace manufacturing and defence clusters in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) will be expedited by the inaugural Defence Technologies & Test Centre (DTTC) that is spread across 22 acres.

The two units are slated to carry out an integral role in improving both defence production and national security along with developing the economy of UP.

“At the time of defence corridor's inauguration, we had estimated an investment of Rs 3,732 crore. Investment of more than Rs 1,400 crore has already been received and the process is progressing rapidly,” Singh further spoke about the UPDIC, which has paved the way for comprehensive technological growth of UP.

The BrahMos manufacturing centre, announced by BrahMos Aerospace, is a modern, state-of-art facility in the Lucknow node of UPDIC. It will cover over 200 acres and produce the new BrahMos-NG (Next Generation) variant, which carries forward the lineage of the BrahMos weapons system.

This new centre would be ready over the next two to three years and will commence production at a rate of 80-100 BrahMos-NG missiles per year.
