Captain Geetika Koul has made history by becoming the first female medical officer of the Indian Army to serve at Siachen, the highest battlefield in the world.

The announcement was made by the Fire and Fury Corps on Tuesday (5 December).

Her landmark posting comes after she successfully underwent intensive induction training at the renowned Siachen Battle School. The training included acclimatisation to high altitude, survival skills, and advanced medical protocols.

The Indian Army's Fire and Fury Corps took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), to celebrate Captain Koul's achievement, underscoring its commitment to gender inclusivity in the forces.

The corps said, "Captain Geetika Koul from the Snow Leopard Brigade is the first woman medical officer of the Indian Army to be stationed at the world’s highest battlefield, Siachen, following her successful completion of the induction training at Siachen Battle School."

The Siachen Glacier, known for its extreme altitude, harsh weather conditions, and challenging landscape, is the world's highest battlefield. The Indian Army is deployed at the top of the glacier, while the Pakistan army holds positions several hundred metres below at the foothills.
