During a gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district today (21 December), three soldiers were killed in action, and three others sustained injuries, as per the army's announcement.
The confrontation initiated when terrorists ambushed two army vehicles passing through Dera Ki Gali in Rajouri's Poonch region at 3:45 pm.
Despite the ongoing encounter, the army had been conducting operations in and around Dera Ki Gali, also known as the DKG area, since Thursday night. The situation remains dynamic, with the encounter still in progress.
"The army launched a joint operation in the general area of DKG last night based on solid intelligence. Contact has been established today evening, and the encounter is currently in progress. Further details are being ascertained," stated Army spokesperson.
Between April and May of the current year, twin attacks resulted in the death of 10 soldiers in the Rajouri-Poonch region. This area had experienced a significant absence of terrorism from 2003 to 2021, after which frequent encounters began occurring.
Over the past two years, more than 35 soldiers have lost their lives in action during anti-terror operations in the region.
