The Uttar Pradesh State Export Promotion Bureau has reported that exports from the state have increased by over 100 per cent in the past six years.

In 2016-17, UP exported goods worth Rs 84,000 crore, while in 2022-23, the figure rose to Rs 174,000 crore. The bureau aims to surpass Rs 200,000 crore in exports in the current financial year.

Together they contribute to 60 per cent of the state’s exports.

As per Times of India report, the products driving UP's exports include telecom instruments, buffalo meat, cotton, RMG manmade fibre, leather footwear, aluminium products, silk and handmade carpets, machinery and engineering goods, wheat, rice, sugar, among others.

Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, cabinet minister for industries, export promotion, NRI, and Investment Promotion, stated that the plan for FY 2023-24 includes expanding the export basket and increasing the number of exporters in the state.

Additionally the plan includes capacity building on export processes, leveraging e-commerce for export growth, and facilitating product development.

As per an earlier assessment, the Federation of India Exports Organisation (FIEO) attributes UP's growth to the state government's export promotion schemes — which provide assistance to exporters with stall charges, airfare, publicity, sample sending, and certification.

Additionally, they can receive 60 per cent of the economy airfare cost, up to a maximum of Rs 1 lakh and 60 per cent of the total expenditure on publicity up to a maximum of Rs 75,000 annually.

Moreover, 75 per cent of the cost of sending samples to a foreign buyer, up to a maximum of Rs 1 lakh per annum and 50 per cent of the cost of certification, up to a maximum of Rs 2 lakh per annum, can be covered.
