Alarming Dengue Spike In Bihar: 6,146 Cases Reported in September, Highest In Last Five Years

Bihar is currently witnessing an alarming increase in dengue cases.
According to data from the state health department, there were 6,146 reported cases in September, which is the highest for the month in the past five years.
Out of the total 6,421 cases reported in the state this year, 6,146 cases were reported in September alone. This number is three times higher than the 1,896 cases registered in September last year.
On Friday, the state recorded 416 new cases, with Patna reporting the highest number at 177.
Munger followed with 33 cases, while Saran, Bhagalpur, and Begusarai reported 28, 27, and 17 cases respectively.
As of 17 September, the National Center for Vector Borne Disease Control of the Union Health Ministry has reported seven dengue-related deaths in Bihar this year.
According to data from the health department, there were a total of 13,972 reported cases last year.
Up until 30 September, a total of 295 individuals were receiving treatment at 12 government hospitals. This included 127 patients at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur, 39 patients at VIMS in Pawapuri, and 28 patients at Patna Medical College and Hospital.
Patna District Magistrate Chandrasekhar Singh stated that the administration is closely monitoring the situation on a daily basis. They are conducting spraying and fogging activities, as well as organizing awareness camps on vector-borne diseases.
Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking extensive measures to combat the rising number of dengue cases in the city, according to PMC Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar.
To tackle the situation, the PMC has deployed 140 vehicles and hand-held devices for chemical fogging.
Additionally, they have formed 375 teams dedicated to carrying out fogging operations.
Regular sanitisation of residential premises that have reported dengue cases is also being conducted as part of the preventive measures.
