At Least 1,500 Km Of Roads In UP Must Be Built Using Plastic Waste By Year-End: Deputy CM Tells PWD Officials

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to make sure that at least 1,500 kilometres of roads in the state should be made using plastic waste.
In 2019, Maurya had said that the PWD will use plastic waste for road construction and the plan will be implemented in Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Meerut and Agra.
In 2019, Maurya gave the statement as a response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for reducing plastic use.
Maurya has said that factory units must come up in each zone to enable the conversion of used plastic as material in building of roads.
India has been working in reducing plastic footprint. Roads made out of plastic waste are considered an option to reduce plastic waste and to ensure durable roads.
Maurya has said that the participation of retired and serving engineers and experts should be ensured for the task, and the abilities of a think tank comprising of the experts should be used for initiating the process.
