The Indian Railways plans to manufacture 8,429 train coaches and rakes in 2022-23, including including 75 Vande Bharat Express trains, 220 Tejas and 70 Vistadome coaches, according to the Ministry of Railways's revised coach production programme for FY23.

The ministry has raised the production plan for 2022-23 by 878 units from the earlier planned 7,551.

A target of 8,115 units was earlier set for the financial year 2021-22. The revised plan for the next financial year, 2022-23, raises year-on-year production targets by 3.9 per cent to 8,429, reports RailPost.

The revised production programme adds equivalent of 10 rakes (220 coaches) of the Tejas variant of LHB coaches.

The Railways has also decided to increase the production target for Train-18 or Vande Bharat Express trains. While the ICF will have an ambitious target of manufacturing 55 Vande Bharat rakes instead of originally planned 22 rakes in FY23, the Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Raebareli and RCF will have a target of producing 10 rakes each.

In total, 75 Vande Bharat rakes have been targeted to be produced by March 2023.

Further, the ministry has made several other changes to the original plan including reduction in the production target for First Class AC Sleeper coaches, Two Tier AC Sleeper coaches and standard Three Tier AC Sleeper coaches by 190 units.

On the other hand, an additional 50 coaches of the new Three Tier AC Sleeper Economy variant are to be produced.
