French rail transport company Alstom has successfully delivered the first Metropolis metro train for Line 3 of the Pune Metro from its manufacturing facility in Sricity, Andhra Pradesh.

Line 3 will connect Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Pune to Shivajinagar via Balewadi.

According to the company's statement, the Metropolis trains are the most advanced state-of-the-art green vehicles, engineered for a safe speed of 95 kmph and an operational speed of 85 kmph.

At the handover ceremony, Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, remarked, "We are confident that our locally manufactured technologically advanced Metropolis metro trains will play a key role in enhancing the quality of life of the citizens and the overall development of the city."

Tata Group has established Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to build this corridor, which will feature 23 stations.

In 2021, a joint venture between Alstom India, TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (a Tata Group company), and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH (a subsidiary of Siemens Financial Services) was awarded the contract by the PMRDA to provide the rolling stock and electrical and mechanical system works for this elevated metro line.

As part of this contract, Alstom is manufacturing 22 Metropolis trainsets, each consisting of three cars and capable of carrying 1,000 passengers per train.
