Anonymous letter written to Secunderabad DRM
Indian Railways has issued red alert across all zones after receiving an anonymous letter threatening to repeat "Balasore like tran tragedy" in the first week of July in Telangana.
The letter was written to Divisional Railway Manager of Secunderabad division. The divison is under South Central Railway.
"Balasore like train tragedy may be there in the next week" on the Hyderabad-Delhi-Hyderabad route, said the letter that was received in the Secunderabad division on 30 June 2023.
The Balasore train tragedy involving three trains claimed nearly 300 lives and injured about 1,000 persons on 2 June in South Eastern Zone.
Leaving nothing to chance, the Railways has asked all its divisions to remain alert. All Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) units have also been alerted after receiving the letter.
It could be a hoax, but we are not taking any chance and have issued instruction to all zones to remain fully alert, the Railways maintains.
Suspecting outside interference in the signalling system for the Balasore train accident, the Railways has referred the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to find out the real culprit.
While the Commissioner Railway Safety (CRS) submitted an initial report on 29 June, the CBI is yet to submit its report.
The CRS report has clearly pointed out human error. However, the sabotage angle, if any, will only be probed by the CBI.
