A six-lane bridge-cum-road project connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati across the Brahmaputra river, has achieved nearly 80 per cent completion and is set to open to the public as scheduled.

"Bringing both banks closer! The Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge over Brahmaputra has achieved nearly 80 per cent progress and will be open to public on time," Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on the microblogging site X.

The main span of the bridge is designed to be 1.24 km long. Following the crossing of the bridge from Guwahati, the road will expand to six lanes, ultimately extending to Gauripur in North Guwahati.

It may be recalled that the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge is being constructed by SP Singla Constructions Private Limited, which was constructing the Sultanganj-Aguani Ghat bridge in Bihar, that collapsed on 4 June this year.
