Bengaluru Metro has taken a significant step towards expanding its network by awarding contracts for feasibility studies to extend the metro in three directions and build a new line.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) selected Hyderabad-based infrastructure consultancy Aarvee Associates Architects Engineers and Consultants Pvt Ltd for these studies, with the contract valued at Rs 1.59 crore.

The decision follows an invitation for open bids issued in February by BMRCL for consulting services to evaluate the feasibility of extending the metro by 50 km in three directions and constructing a new 68-km line.

Aarvee Associates Architects Engineers and Consultants Pvt Ltd had previously won a separate contract on 29 June to study the feasibility of extending the metro to Tumakuru, covering 52.41 km.

These feasibility studies will analyse various factors including construction costs, traffic patterns, alignment, property requirements, and potential land acquisition challenges, as stated by BMRCL. The studies are expected to take approximately six months to complete, reports Deccan Herald.

Based on the findings of these feasibility studies, the government will decide whether to approve or reject the proposed metro lines. If approved by both the state and Union governments, BMRCL will proceed with a detailed project report, which could mark the beginning of Phase 4 of the metro's expansion.
