After three years of indecisiveness, the issue of accommodating the Bettahalasur Metro station on the KR Puram-Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) line has finally been resolved.

DC Nataraj, the chief engineer of Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation BMRCL, has confirmed that the station, situated one km from the IAF campus, will be built on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model as originally planned. Embassy Group will provide the funding, while BMRCL will handle the construction work.

According to a senior Metro official, a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BMRCL and the Embassy Group will be signed soon. The Embassy Group has already made a token contribution of Rs one crore for the station.

The station will be located between Bagalur Cross and Doddajala stations, with an estimated cost of around Rs 140 crore.

In April 2020, the Embassy Group initially agreed to fund the station for easy access to its residents in the Embassy Boulevard complex. However, due to internal financial issues, they later withdrew their funding. As a result, BMRCL announced in December 2022 that they would not proceed with the station.

In response to public demand, the State Government's High Powered Committee has approved the addition of the Chikkajala station to the metro line. It will be situated between Bettahalsuru and Doddajala stations.

The Chikkajala station, which was added to the line based on public demand, has been approved by the State Government's High Powered Committee.

The 36.44-km Airport Line is divided into three packages: K R Puram to Hebbal (Pkg 1), Hebbal to IAF Campus (Package 2), and IAF to KIA (Package 3).

The completion deadline for the entire line is set for June 2026.
