Bengaluru To Get 100 km Of Signal-Free Roads With Rs 12,000 Crore Elevated Corridors Project

In a move to address Bengaluru’s traffic congestion, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar announced the state government's decision to build 17 elevated corridors on key arterial roads in the city.

This ambitious project aims to transform a total of 100 kilometres of roads into signal-free corridors, in addition to a proposed tunnel road. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 12,000 crore.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) shared that after conducting a traffic congestion survey, they prepared a tentative list of locations for these elevated corridors.

However, the funding details remain unclear, with sources suggesting a phased approach prioritising four to five corridors annually over the next four years.

Additionally, extensions are planned for the long-delayed Ejipura flyover to Hosur Road, the Anand Rao Circle flyover to K R Circle, and a new flyover from Hudson Circle to Minerva Circle, reports Deccan Herald.

In other news, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) introduced a new mobile application, Raste Gundi Gamana (Fix Pothole), allowing citizens to report potholes in their neighbourhoods.

The app aims to expedite the pothole-filling process in the city. This app complements the existing Fix My Street app, which also receives various complaints but is specifically dedicated to potholes.
