The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) today marked a milestone in its Mumbai -Ahmedabad high-speed railway (HSR) project with the breakthrough of the first mountain tunnel.
The tunnel structure comprises of tunnel, tunnel portal and other connecting structures like tunnel entrance hood.
The mountain tunnel has been constructed under the C4 package of the project which involves design and construction of 237 km length of viaduct between Vapi and Vadodara in the state of Gujarat including four stations namely Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch and Surat Depot.
The tunnel is being constructed by New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM). MAHSR corridor will have seven mountain tunnels, all of which will be constructed using the NATM.
