The detailed project report (DPR) of the proposed underground Metro system in the Central Vista is being prepared and is likely to be submitted shortly to the government for approval for going ahead with the ambitious plan.

According to the DPR, the 2.65 km long underground Metro system with four stations is slated to cost Rs 750 crore excluding the cost of tunnels and stations.

The CPWD will construct the tunnels and stations for the Metro operations and hand them over to DMRC.

An MoU (memorandum of understanding) was signed between DMRC and CPWD on 28 February, 2022, as per which, DMRC is tasked with the responsibility of planning and execution of an underground Metro System project for providing better connectivity in the redevelopment of Central Vista in the heart of the capital city.

The DMRC will assist in setting up an underground Metro system and also operate and maintain the system in the Central Vista Project.

During the first phase from January, 2022 to December, 2026 all civil structures of metro tunnels/metro stations will be constructed by CPWD and regular interface services will be provided by DMRC to CPWD during the construction.

DMRC will also provide manpower support with technical expertise to CPWD during the design phase. After handing over the site to DMRC by CPWD, DMRC shall execute all the remaining works such as maintenance, traction, OHE, depot, rolling stock and Signal & Telecom S&T etc.

This system will be operated and maintained by DMRC.
