Govt Plans Over 800 GW Installed Power Generation Capacity By 2030 To Meet Future Electricity Demand

The government has planned to increase the installed power generation capacity to 817 gigawatt (GW) by March 2030 to meet the future demand of electricity in the country.

In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday (8 February), Union Minister for Power R K Singh said that the 19th Electric Power Survey (EPS) report covers electricity demand projection for the year 2016-17 to 2026-27 as well as perspective electricity demand projection for the year 2031-32 and 2036-37 for each state and union territory.

He further said that India has robust transmission grid capacity and power from one state to another can be transmitted through electricity grids.

"The cumulative inter regional transmission capacity of the National Grid as on 31.01.2022 was 1,12,250 MW, which has ensured seamless transfer of power in the Electricity Grid," he said.
