The Haryana government has decided to form a new company, Gurugram Metro Rail Limited, for the implementation of the metro connectivity project from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City Gurugram.

The Union cabinet, on 7 June 2023, had approved the metro connectivity from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City covering the distance of 28.50 km having 27 stations on the route. The project was initially proposed to be implemented by Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC).

Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal, who is also the chairman of Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation, made the announcement presiding over the 54th meeting of the corporation in Gurugram.

The metro connectivity project from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City, Gurugram will span 28.50 km with 27 stations, and the estimated project cost stands at Rs 5,452.72 crore.

The project, entirely elevated, will feature a standard gauge line measuring 1,435 mm (5 ft 8.5 inches) and will have a 1.85 km spur to Sector 101 (Dwarka Expressway) at Gurugram.

Presently, Old Gurugram lacks a metro line, making the new metro connection pivotal in bridging New Gurugram with Old Gurugram. This network will integrate with the Indian Railways network and, in its subsequent phase, establish connectivity to the IGI airport. The development is expected to stimulate overall economic growth in the region.

"This will provide a circular mobility corridor connecting Millennium City Centre to Subhash Chowk to Railway Station, Rezangla Chowk to Cyber City coming full circle,’’ he added.
