Jyotiraditya Scindia inspecting the under-construction Gwalior Airport Terminal
The under-construction new terminal building of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior city will be ready by 31 January or the first week of February.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated this after inspecting the under-construction airport terminal on Wednesday.
"We aim to make this the fastest airport to be built in the history of India. and will try to have it completely ready by January 31 or the first week of February," the Union Minister said.
It may be recalled that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had laid the foundation for the new terminal building and expansion of the Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport on 16 October 2022.
Spanning an expansive 20,230 square metres, the new terminal surpasses the current 3,500 square metre facility, making it larger than both the airports in Indore and Bhopal.
After the expansion, the airport will have the capacity to park 13 planes as against the existing capacity for three aircraft.
"This is a historic moment for Gwalior. Not only on the map of India but Gwalior is ready to rise on a global level. This airport terminal was the dream of every person in Gwalior. A grand airport has been developed by the Airport Authority of India, which has history, culture, and modernity —the confluence of all four things," Scindia said.
It is to be noted here that Madhav Rao Scindia, father of Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, had laid the foundation stone of Gwalior Airport 37 years ago.
