Kerala: Thiruvananthapuram Airport Set For Rs 1,300 Crore Development By 2027 By Adani Group

Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) has announced a major investment of Rs 1,300 crore for the expansion of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (TRV).

The ambitious project, named "Project Anantha,"aims to significantly upgrade the airport's infrastructure by 2027. One of the key highlights of the expansion is a new terminal, designed to reflect Kerala’s cultural heritage with architecture inspired by the state's iconic temples, featuring cascading steps and terraced levels.

Currently, the airport spans 45,000 square meters and handles approximately 3.2 million passengers annually. After the expansion, the terminal's area will increase to 165,000 square meters, with the capacity to accommodate up to 12 million passengers a year.

Construction is set to begin within this financial year and is slated for completion by 2027. The new terminal will include modern amenities such as a plaza, a hotel, and additional administrative facilities, all located within a single complex. Enhanced car parking facilities will also be part of the upgrade to improve the overall experience for passengers and visitors, as per The Hindu report.

AAHL has been managing the operations, development, and management of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport since October 2021. Established in 1932, TRV is Kerala’s oldest airport and was previously operated by the Airports Authority of India before the Adani Group took over.

AAHL, established in 2019 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd, marks the Adani Group’s entry into the airport sector. The company operates and manages five other key airports—Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Jaipur, Guwahati after securing concession agreements with the Airports Authority of India. Additionally, AAHL holds a 73 per cent stake in Mumbai International Airport Ltd, which controls 74 per cent of Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd.

With eight airports in its portfolio, AAHL is India’s largest airport infrastructure firm, handling 25 per cent of passenger traffic and 33 per cent of air cargo.
