Lucknow Metro Expansion: Eleven Firms Compete For Geotechnical Survey Of City’s 11.65 km East-West Corridor

As part of the ongoing metro expansion in Lucknow, eleven firms have submitted bids to carry out the geotechnical soil investigation for the 11.65 km-long second phase (1B) of the city's metro network.

This phase, known as the East-West corridor, will span 11.165 km from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj, passing through densely populated areas like Aminabad, Chowk, and Thakurganj.

In July 2024, the Network Planning Group (NPG) approved the detailed project report (DPR).

The NPG, created under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP) to improve multimodal connectivity, includes representatives from various ministries.

The DPR, prepared by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), was previously approved by the state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in March 2024.

UPMRC invited bids for the geotechnical investigation in August 2024, with an estimated budget of Rs 77.21 lakh and a 90-day deadline.

This investigation will provide vital information on soil properties, groundwater levels, and other critical factors for the safe and cost-effective design and construction of the metro line.

The collected data will aid in developing detailed designs for viaducts, stations, and underground sections, ensuring minimal damage to existing structures during construction.

Currently, the UPMRC operates the first 22.88 km long North-South Corridor, which runs from Munshi Pulia to Amausi Airport, with 22 stations. This corridor was completed 36 days ahead of schedule, with no cost overruns.
