Mumbai Coastal Road Project: PM Modi To Unveil First Phase Linking Worli And Marine Drive On 19 February

The first phase of Mumbai Coastal Road, the road linking Worli to Marine Drive, is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 19 February, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said.

The Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP) is a 10.58-km high-speed corridor connecting Princess Street Flyover (Marine Drive) in South Mumbai with the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) at Worli through a series of arterial roads, underground tunnels, and traffic interchanges.

The rest of the stretch that would join the arterial road with the BWSL will be completed by 31 May, following which the entire corridor will be operational.

The high point of this project is the twin tunnels beneath the Arabian Sea near Girgaon Chowpatty, making it India's first undersea tunnel system.

Once completed, the first phase of the coastal road being built at an estimated cost of Rs 12,500 crore will speed up the suburban commute to and from South Mumbai.
