The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has issued tenders to develop a 59.65-hectare car shed for Metro Line 9 (Dahisar to Mira-Bhayander) at Uttan.
The site will be developed into a proper, full-fledged depot with over 40 stabling lines, depot and train operation control centre, maintenance yard and administrative buildings.
The 10.855 km line, with eight elevated stations, has reached a 77 per cent completion milestone. The line is expected to be ready by June 2025.
In late 2022, the MMRDA put forward a proposal to extend Line 9 from Bhayandar to Uttan, an additional 2.5 kilometres ahead. The plan included establishing a depot in Bhayandar's Rai village. However, the authority later decided to locate the depot on a hillock in Uttan village.
