Months after the first tender was cancelled, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), on 11 December, invited tenders for the construction of Metro Line 12 that will run from Kalyan to Taloja.

As per the contract, the Rs 1,877.88 crore project involves part-design and construction of an elevated viaduct and 19 stations, with a completion time of 30 months.

As part of plan to create an inter-connected network, the Metro Line 12 will connect to Metro Line 5 at APMC Kalyan and Navi Mumbai Metro Line 01 in Taloja.

The 24.9-km-long Metro Line-5 is an elevated corridor which connects Thane to Kalyan via Bhiwandi and is being developed in two phases. Construction work for the first phase, covering a 11.9km route between Thane and Bhiwandi, is almost 80 per cent complete and is expected to be operational soon. Work on the 11.8-km-long second phase from Bhiwandi to Kalyan would start soon.
