The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) announced on Thursday (3 October) the successful completion of a 210-metre prestressed concrete (PSC) bridge over National Highway (NH) 48 in Sisodra village, Navsari, Gujarat, as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor project.

The newly constructed bridge, which spans 210 meters, is the second PSC balanced cantilever bridge to be completed on NH-48 using the span-by-span (SBS) method. It features 72 precast segments and comprises four spans—two of 40 meters and two of 65 meters—over the traffic lanes on either side of the highway. NHSRCL completed the construction on Wednesday (2 October).

In a statement, NHSRCL said, "The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor is crossing over NH-48, passing through Gujarat and Maharashtra, at Sisodra village, Navsari district, Gujarat through elevated viaduct. This 210-meter long bridge is the second PSC box-segmental bridge completed over the highway by the balanced cantilever method. This bridge is located between Billimora and Surat Bullet Train station," reports Indian Express.

Earlier in August, NHSRCL had also completed the construction of another PSC bridge at Amadpore village in Navsari, marking significant progress in the development of India's first high-speed rail project.

The high-speed rail operating at 320 kmph will traverse between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in just about two hours.

It will cover 155.76 km in Maharashtra, 4.3 km in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and 348.04 km in Gujarat, with 12 stations en route. There are eight stations in Gujarat (Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, and Vapi) and four in Maharashtra (Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai).

NHSRCL plans to operationalise the section between Vadodara and Vapi by 2027, aiming for complete project delivery by the second half of 2028.

In September 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe laid the foundation stone for the high-speed rail project at Sabarmati in Ahmedabad.
