Tata Motors has made history with its Punch and Nexon, which have become India's first electric vehicles to achieve 5-star certification from Bharat-NCAP.

Similarly, the Nexon.ev scored impressively with 29.86/32 for AOP and 44.95/49 for COP.

With this, Tata Motors is now the only original equipment manufacturers (OEM) with the safest range of SUV portfolio scoring 5-stars across Bharat-NCAP and Global-NCAP tests.

Launched in August 2023, the Bharat-NCAP is an indigenous star-rating system for crash testing cars under which vehicles are assigned between one to five stars indicating their safety in a collision.

Modelled on the lines of the Global-NCAP, the programme aims to assist consumers in making informed decisions before purchasing a car, thereby spurring demand for safer cars.

The BNCAP rating evaluates and rates vehicles after evaluating them on three parameters — adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, and safety assist technologies present in the car.

"Congratulations to @tataev, @TataMotors for achieving a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating for the Punch.ev and Nexon.ev, thus becoming the first ever 5-star rated EVs in the Indian automotive market, " Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India posted on X (formerly twitter).

Since its launch, the Punch has captured the attention of EV enthusiasts and first-time buyers, particularly in rural markets where it holds a significant appeal. Meanwhile, the Nexon, a pivotal player in India's EV revolution, has sold over 68,000 units since 2020 and continues to lead with its updated version introduced in 2023, marking a substantial advancement for the Indian auto industry.
