The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has purchased a battery-operated shunter for the Metro car depot. For the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro Line-3's first eight-car prototype train, this battery-operated rail-cum-road shunter was successful.
"We have procured a battery-operated shunterfor Metro car depot. This battery-operated rail-cum-road shunter has successfully formed the first 8-car prototype train for the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz metro line-3," a Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) representative stated, reports The Economic Times.
The shunter is produced under the Make-In-India strategy, thanks to a joint venture and technology transfer agreement with the NITEQ of the Netherlands.
The Alstom trains produced cars for a prototype train whose manufacturing plant is based in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
By 2023, MMRCL hopes to have finished building Metro Line 3. These trains will run on a 25 KV AC traction supply and have a maximum passenger carrying capacity of 2,350 passengers.
