The prototype train for the Metro Line 3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz) underground corridor is expected to run trials on August 15, 2022.

The three kilometres stretch between Sariput Nagar and Marol Naka metro station would be used for the testing.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has purchased a battery-operated shunter for the Metro car depot. For the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro Line-3's first eight-car prototype train, this battery-operated rail-cum-road shunter was successful.

The shunter is produced under the Make-In-India strategy, thanks to a joint venture and technology transfer agreement with the NITEQ of the Netherlands.

The Alstom trains produced cars for a prototype train whose manufacturing plant is based in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.

By 2023, MMRCL hopes to have finished building Metro Line 3. These trains will run on a 25 KV AC traction supply and have a maximum passenger carrying capacity of 2,350 passengers.
