The Telangana state cabinet has approved a comprehensive plan to enhance the transport infrastructure in the state capital, Hyderabad at a cost of Rs 60,000 crore.
This includes the clearance of new Metro Rail projects that will connect different areas in the city.
During the state cabinet meeting, which lasted for over six hours, an important decision was made regarding the Hyderabad Metro Rail.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao expressed confidence in receiving central assistance for the proposed Metro Rail expansion.
In the event that central assistance is not provided, the state government is prepared to raise funds independently. He also shared Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao's vision to establish the city's transport system as the best in the country.
The Minister revealed that the Metro Rail expansion will encompass all routes connecting Hyderabad to various parts of the country. Specifically, a Metro Rail corridor is being proposed between Jubilee Bus station and Tumkunta on the Godavarikani route.
According to him, the project will consist of two layers — one for vehicular movement and the other for the Metro.
As this extension involves defence lands, the state government will work with the centre to acquire the necessary lands, according to the Telangana Today report.
A new corridor was planned for development, connecting Isnapur and Miyapur, and later extending from Miyapur to Lakdikapul.
The Metro expansion on the Vijayawada route would include extending the line from LB Nagar to Pedda Amberpet. Similarly, on the Warangal route, the Metro line would be extended from Uppal to Bibi Nagar. Additionally, there were plans for a Metro line connecting Uppal and ECIL crossroads.
To improve connectivity on the Bengaluru Highway, the Metro line would be extended from Shamshabad to Shadnagar via Kothur. Another line was also planned from Shamshabad to Kandukur, aimed at providing faster access to the upcoming Pharma City.
The Chief Minister had already inaugurated the Metro connection from Raidurg to the Shamshabad Airport, marking the beginning of its construction.
Furthermore, the Cabinet had approved a proposal for a Metro line along the ORR, covering a distance of 159 km. Notably, there would be no need for land acquisition along the ORR, as stated by the Minister.
