Catering to the growing demand for Vande Bharat trains, the Railways has decided to introduce the semi-high speed train service between Gorakhpur and Lucknow shortly. This will be the second Vande Bharat Express for the state.

While the next Vande Bharat train with 16 coaches is slated to be flagged off from Puru to be followed by an 8-coach Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri this month, the national transporter has geared up to introduce two more such services in quick succession for Ranchi-Patna and Gorakhpur-Lucknow.

Considered as new age train services, the semi-high speed Vande Bharat Express will be pressed into service connecting not so big cities and towns across the country so that people all over the country can experience the improved amenities in such trains, the Railways maintains.

The Railways has firmed up the action plan to upgrade the existing infrastructure for introduction of the semi-high speed Vande Bharat Express trains across the country and for this it has ramped up the production of the trains at ICF.

The national transporter is working rapidly to transform and modernise the existing infrastructure for the operation of the semi-high speed train on different routes.

The blue and white colour train with running cheetah embossed on its front is likely to cover the distance of more than 270 km in less than four hours.

Presently, the fastest trains operating between the two cities are: Gorakhdham Express, and Bihar Sampark Kranti Express. Both the trains take four hours and forty five minutes to cover the same distance.

The Railways has introduced four Vande Bharat Express in the current financial year – Secunderabad-Tirupati, Chennai-Coimbatore, Ajmer-Delhi Cantt, and Thiruvananthapuram-Kasargod Vande Bharat Express.

Besides ICF Chennai, as per the ramp up production plan, Vande Bharat trains will also be manufactured at Rae Bareilly-based Modern Coach Factory, Kapurthala-based Rail Coach Factory and Latur-based Marathwada Rail Coach Factory.
