A ride on Namo Bharat train by specially-abled persons
On World Disability Day, a group of specially-abled people visited the RRTS station and took a round trip from Sahibabad RRTS Station to Duhai RRTS Station on the Namo Bharat Train.
NCRTC also hosted an awareness program for them, during which participants were informed about the RRTS' features and the numerous provisions in place to ensure that the services are accessible to everyone.
The awareness program was conducted under the aegis of the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific (JFPR) initiative provided to NCRTC in conjunction with an ADB loan for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS project.
The group of specially-abled consisted of individuals of various ages, with the majority being children. They enjoyed the whole experience and were very appreciative of the universal accessibility of the RRTS.
During the awareness program, children shared their joyful experiences of the visit, they especially enjoyed the ride on the Namo Bharat Train and were amazed by its speed and comfortable commute.
They lauded NCRTC for its commitment to providing an all-inclusive, universally accessible, safe, and comfortable commuter system.
'Commuter-Centricity’ is one of the core principles guiding the RRTS project. Right from the planning to the construction phase, the RRTS has prioritised the needs of commuters, ensuring that accessibility is a fundamental aspect of the system's design.
Special consideration has been given to the requirements of various demographics, including elderly people, children, specially-abled individuals, and women.
At RRTS stations, wheelchairs are readily available to ensure convenience for those who require them. Spacious lifts have been installed at stations, accommodating wheelchairs and stretchers, facilitating smooth movement for all passengers.
Moreover, for visually impaired passengers, tactile paths have been incorporated into station design, aiding navigation and ensuring safety. Specially-abled visitors appreciated these features and applauded the thought put into the designing of the stations.
Inside Namo Bharat trains, designated spaces are provided for wheelchairs and stretchers, promoting accessibility and ease of travel. Moreover, each coach features reserved seats for specially-abled passengers, enhancing their comfort and convenience.
Additionally, a train attendant is available on every RRTS train, providing assistance and convenience to all commuters.
NCRTC regularly organises such awareness programs to educate the public about India's first RRTS and its potential to transform the region.
These initiatives also encourage individuals to consider the RRTS as their preferred mode of public transport, thereby reducing reliance on private vehicles and promoting sustainable urban mobility.
NCRTC remains committed to building a more inclusive and accessible future for all, making the RRTS a symbol of progress and equality in public transportation.
