10.4 Per Cent Growth In Energy Consumption From April 2022-February 2023: Union Power Minister

Union Power Minister R K Singh on Thursday (23 March) said that over 10 per cent growth was registered in the energy consumption in the country in April-February of Financial Year 2022-23.

"The growth in energy supplied/consumption in February, 2023 is 8 per cent as compared to February, 2022 whereas growth in energy supplied/consumption for the period April, 2022 to February, 2023 is 10.4 per cent as compared to the period April, 2021 to February 2022," Singh said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.

The minister further the peak energy demand in March was projected at 212 GW whereas only 209 GW has been reported till date in the month of March 2023.


According to the data shared by the minister, the energy requirement in February 2023 was at around 117.209 billion units, an increase of 8 per cent over the same month previous year while 116.697 billion units of energy was supplied in February, registering a rise of 8 per cent compared to the same month last year.

Further, the energy requirement in April 2022-February 2023 was at around 1,382.920 billion units, an increase of 10.6 per cent over the same period previous year while 116.697 billion units of energy was supplied during April-February of FY23, registering a rise of 10.4 per cent compared to the same month last year.
