Adani's Mundra Port Welcomes Largest Ever Container Ship To Dock In India

Mundra Port, the flagship facility of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), has set a new milestone by welcoming the largest container ship to ever dock at an Indian port.
The MSC Anna, a massive container ship, anchored at Adani Ports Mundra on 26 May 2024.
This impressive vessel has a length overall (LOA) of 399.98 metres —comparable to the length of four football fields — and boasts a carrying capacity of 19,200 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), making it the largest container ship by capacity to visit an Indian port, according to an APSEZ statement.
With an arrival draft of 16.3 metrrs, the MSC Anna requires deep waters that only Mundra Port can accommodate, as no other Indian port is currently capable of berthing such a deep-draft vessel, the statement added.
Mundra Port continues to break records in the maritime transport sector by safely docking some of the largest ships.
In July 2023, the port made headlines by berthing one of the largest container ships ever – the MV MSC Hamburg, a vessel 399 metres long and 54 metres wide, with a carrying capacity of 15,908 TEUs.
In 2021, APSEZ also berthed the APL Raffles, a 13,892 TEU vessel registered in Singapore, which at that time was the largest container ship to call at any Indian port. The APL Raffles measures 397.88 metres in length and 51 metres in width.
Since berthing its first ship, Alpha, on 7 October 1998, the Mundra port has positioned itself as one of the premier and technologically advanced global ports.
Notably, its container terminal CT-3 attained a remarkable feat by becoming the first in India to handle 3 million TEUs in a single year.
Furthermore, the terminal set another milestone by handling over 300,000 TEUs in November alone, marking the highest monthly throughput ever recorded by any terminal in India.
