AI-Driven Namo Bharat: India's RRTS Priority Section Is Equipped With AI Surveillance To Monitor Unlawful Activities

The recently inaugurated priority section of India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) has opened for passenger service from Saturday (21 October). On the first day, more than 10,000 passengers enjoyed the ride.
For the safety of both the commuters as well as the various RRTS installations, an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled security system equipped with the latest technologies is operational in the priority section to detect unlawful activities.
The entire section comprising the five stations of Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot is equipped with continuous CCTV monitoring all around.
Two-level monitoring is ensured at the station level and at the central security control level. Suspicious behaviour, vandalism, or wrongful acts will be captured by these CCTV cameras anywhere across the system.
Each Namo Bharat train has 36 cameras that will issue alerts regarding unauthorised entry, unclaimed luggage, overcrowding, and so on. A dedicated security control room is also monitoring the safety and security aspects of passengers round the clock.
The security screening of the commuters at the time of entry into the stations is being done using the multi-zone door frame metal detector (DFMD).
The DFMD conducts head-to-toe screening of the commuters and thus prevents any suspicious items from getting into the station.
In addition, the AI-equipped baggage scanners at the station entry are capable of easily scanning luggage, even of the size allowed for international travel.
The AI technologies include a dual-view generator x-ray baggage inspection system. With its help, images of both the upper and lower parts of the bag passing through the scanner will appear on the computer screen and the AI system will automatically identify the restricted or prohibited items and alert the operator.
This system will prove to be helpful in further strengthening passenger security.
The Uttar Pradesh government has entrusted the responsibility of security of all the stations in the state to the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF). The security force has already been deployed at the priority section stations.
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has imparted training on operational procedures as well as the use of various state-of-the-art safety equipment and effective handling of emergency situations to the deployed UPSSF members.
A quick reaction team, bomb detection and disposal squad, dog squad, and so on have also been deployed by Uttar Pradesh Police for the investigation and prevention of law-and-order crimes in stations.
Keeping security paramount, a police station in Ghaziabad Commissionerate has been designated for the recently opened priority section network by the Uttar Pradesh government, and a provision has also been made for a police post at each station to enforce law and order.
The NCRTC endeavours to reduce the time spent at security checks as much as possible by using the latest technology, especially AI.
