Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line: Tunnelling Work On City's Longest Underground Corridor To Be Completed By 31 August, Launch In 2025

Bengaluru's metro network is on the brink of a major milestone with the nearing completion of the Pink Line's extensive underground tunnel. Connecting Bannerghatta Road to Nagawara, this 13-kilometre tunnel is in its final stages of construction and is set to be finished by August this year.
The Pink Line covers 21.26 kilometres, featuring a 13.76-kilometre underground section and a 7.5-kilometre elevated portion, with 18 stations, including 12 underground.
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has divided the tunnelling project into three phases. The first two phases have been successfully wrapped up, with the third phase currently at 94 per cent completion rate.
A BMRCL official stated, “The third phase involves excavating 935 metres of tunnel between KG Halli and Nagawara, using advanced Tunnel Boring Machines named Tunga and Bhadra. Tunga and Bhadra, which began their operations in February and April respectively, are progressing well towards completing their respective sections by 31 July and 31August," reports Economic Times.
The completion of these tunnelling phases will set the stage for subsequent track laying, civil works, and the installation of vital infrastructure for the Pink Line.
BMRCL aims to finalise all civil and track-laying work on the Pink Line by the second half of 2024, paving the way for traction, signalling, and system installations.
Once the Pink Line becomes operational, it promises to alleviate transportation challenges and improve connectivity for Bengaluru's residents and commuters.
