Bullet Train Project: Financial Bids Opened For Mumbai’s Underground Station, Megha-HCC JV Quotes Lowest Bid

National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has opened financial bids for the design and construction of Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) high speed rail station in Mumbai (Maharashtra) under Mumbai - Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) C-1 package.

The financial bids of three technically qualified bidders were opened on Wednesday (28 December) and the Joint Venture (JV) of M/s Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd and Hindustan Construction Company Limited (M/s MEIL-HCC JV) has quoted the lowest bid.

The technical bids of this tender were opened on 4th November 2022.

BKC high speed rail station in Mumbai will be the only underground station in Mumbai Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor.

The station will have six platforms and length of each platform is approximately 415 metres (sufficient to accommodate a 16 coach bullet train). The station will have connectivity with the metro and road.

The platform is planned at a depth of about 24 metres from the ground level. There will be three floors including platform, concourse and service floor. Two entry/exit points are planned, one to facilitate the access to nearby metro station of metro line 2B and other towards the MTNL building.

The station has been planned in a way that ample space is available for passenger movement and amenities at the concourse and platform level. A dedicated skylight provision has been made for natural lighting.

The amenities planned for passengers at stations include — security, ticketing, waiting areas, business class lounge, nursery, rest rooms, smoking rooms, information kiosks and incidental retail, public information and announcement system, CCTV surveillance, etc.

Mumbai To Ahmedabad in two hours

The 508 km long MAHSR project will cover 155.76 km in Maharashtra, 4.3 km in the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and 348.04 km in Gujarat, with 12 stations en route.

Upon completion, the High-Speed Rail will operate at 320 Kmph, covering the entire distance in approximately two hours with limited stops and three hours with all stops.

For constructing 508 km long viaduct superstructures of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project (MAHSR), State-of-the-Art construction methodologies like Full Span Launching Methodology (FSLM) will be adopted.

This technology will expedite the launching of girders as the precast girders of full span length will be erected as a single piece for a double-track viaduct. FSLM has been used worldwide as it is faster than the segment-by-segment launching method, usually adopted for constructing viaducts for metro systems.

NHSRCL has developed casting Yards at 25 strategic locations along the alignment.

Out of 25 casting yards, 17 are full span casting yards, and eight are segmental casting yards. Each Casting Yard is spread over 16 to 93 acres per requirement and is located adjacent to the High-Speed Rail alignment.

According to NHSRCL, the cumulative area of 25 Casting Yards is around 1,000 acres.
