A massive infrastructure with 1,675 indoor antennas, over 35 km of radio frequency cable, and 25 km of fiber cable, among others, was deployed to provide uninterrupted telecom services at Pragati Maidan for the G20 Summit.

The G20 Summit in the capital marked a pivotal moment for the country, as world leaders converged under one roof to address a number of global concerns.

RailTel was entrusted with delivering integrated telecom solutions at Pragati Maidan, specifically at the newly inaugurated Bharat Mandapam and exhibition halls.

Over 3,600 man-days were invested by RailTel and its partners, to establish cutting-edge mobile network infrastructure and a neutral in-building telecom infrastructure, substantially enhancing mobile coverage across the expansive 122-acre ITPO campus.

This telecom infrastructure consisted of 1,675 indoor antennas, 300 access points, over 35 km of radio-frequency cable, and 25 km of fiber cable.

As part of the project, Wi-Fi infrastructure was strategically placed in outdoor corridors, covering the various halls slated for G20 events and the back-end IT infrastructure for Wi-Fi access was seamlessly integrated with the indoor Wi-Fi infrastructure.

RailTel deployed a secure and robust telecom infrastructure, ensuring on- demand wired internet. RailTel also provided passive infra to telcos. It provisioned internet bandwidth from two internet up-streams through five different physical paths.

RailTel also deployed required cyber security solution for securing network infrastructure, including secure configuration management, firewall deployment, and intrusion prevention systems to prevent unauthorised access and unauthorised activities within the event's network environment.

RailTel coordinated with Centre for Development and Advanced Computing, Computer Emergency Response Team-IN, National Informatics Centre and Ministry of Home Affairs, under the guidance of Ministry of External Affairs.

The entire project was supported by Department of Telecom for ensuring closer coordination with mobile service providers under the guidance of Telecom, IT and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

RailTel also provided end-to-end bandwidth to integrate camera feeds from Bharat Mandapam, Rajghat area, New Delhi Parliament street to the Delhi Police HQ at Jai Singh Marg.

This seamless connectivity enabled Delhi Police and other key security agencies to closely and pro-actively monitor the security of G-20 event and movement of G-20 delegation along the dedicated routes across Delhi.

Talking about the project, RailTel CMD Sanjai Kumar said, “It was a very challenging as well as rewarding work for us. Despite a plethora of roadblocks our team, as well as our partners, completed the work and made the telecom infra ready on time. Success of this project is going to further motivate the team to work even harder with more dedication in future towards the digital transformation journey of the country, emerging as even stronger digital partner.”

"RailTel took the challenge of bringing entire telecom fraternity together to deliver G20 project of very high complexity and scale,’’ said Manoj Tandon, director for project, operations and maintenance.

RailTel, a PSU of the Indian Railways, is one of the largest neutral telecom infrastructure and ICT solutions and services providers in the country, owning a pan-India optic fiber network, covering several towns and cities and rural areas of the country.
