The new Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Terminal Building in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior Airport is ready for operations, announced Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia during a press briefing on Wednesday (27 March).
Emphasising the airport's pivotal role in reshaping Gwalior's aviation landscape, Minister Scindia expressed confidence in its ability to link the city with major destinations across the nation.
"In three to four days, the Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport will commence operations. It marks a momentous occasion and a remarkable achievement for Gwalior," stated Scindia, anticipating a surge in passenger traffic as several flights already witness promising numbers.
The state-of-the-art terminal building of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Terminal at Gwalior Airport, costing Rs 500 crore and environmentally friendly, will commence operations on 2 April.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had laid the foundation for the new terminal building and expansion of the Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport on 16 October 2022.
Spanning an expansive 20,230 square metres, the new terminal surpasses the current 3,500 square metres facility, making it larger than both the airports in Indore and Bhopal.
Equipped with modern amenities and infrastructure, the airport aims to provide travellers with a seamless and comfortable experience, enhancing Gwalior's appeal as a preferred destination, reports Financial Express.
The airport's inauguration holds symbolic importance, positioning the region as a vital driver of economic growth and tourism.
It is to be noted here that Madhav Rao Scindia, father of Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, had laid the foundation stone of Gwalior Airport 37 years ago.
