The construction of the cycle track with solar panelled roof along Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) is progressing at a fast pace.

The 4.5-metre wide cycle track is planned alongside the ORR for 22 kilometres in two stretches in the western parts of Hyderabad, i.e. 8.45 km from Nanakramguda to Telangana State Police Academy (TSPA) and 13.8 km from Narsingi to Kollur.

The cycle track would cover the areas adjoining the city's IT hub and rapidly emerging residential areas.

Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a wing of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), will implement the plan inspired by such facilities in South Korea.

The planned cycle track with solar roofing can accommodate three cycle lanes and one-metre wide green space on either side of the way. In addition, the cycle track can generate 16 MW of power through its solar roof, which would be used for ORR lighting, drip irrigation and other power requirements of the expressway.

Telangana government aims to complete this unique project in the capital in 2023 itself before the state goes to polls in November or December this year.
