Ladakh: Centre Approves Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) To Improve Grid Connectivity And Operations In Region’s Power Sector

The Ministry of Power has approved the implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in Ladakh.

The approved cost for the project is Rs 687.05 crore, according to reports.

The ministry of power also approved the appointment of WAPCOS, a Government of India undertaking as the project management agency (PMA) for the implementation of RDSS in Ladakh.

Ladakh Power Development Department (LPDD) chief engineer for distribution, Tsewang Paljor, signed an agreement with WAPCOS Limited's executive director, A K Gahlot, in the presence of Ladakh's administrative Secretary Power, Ravinder Kumar.

The plan comprises linking Changthang area to the power grid, upgrading infrastructure in Zanskar, and reducing losses in Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh, according to officials.

The objective of the improved distribution cector program is to enhance operational effectiveness and financial stability by offering financial aid tied to performance outcomes to DISCOMs.

The aid is intended for reinforcing the supply infrastructure and is contingent on meeting specific pre-qualification requirements and attaining essential minimum standards.
