Maharashtra: MSRDC Invites RFQ To Build Three New Expressways As Samruddhi Mahamarg Nears Completion

As the Samruddhi Mahamarg approaches its final stages of completion, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has started preliminary work on three different expressways in the state.
The agency has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to select eligible contractors for the development of three access-controlled super communication expressways: Nagpur-Gondia, Bhandara-Gadchiroli, and Nagpur-Chandrapur Expressways.
All the three expressways will provide connection to the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg, thereby, making road travel connectivity smoother between Mumbai and remote parts of the state.
The Nagpur-Gondia expressway, covering a distance of 127.06 km and including a connector to Tiroda and a bypass to Gondia, is estimated to cost Rs 7,095 crore. Meanwhile, the Nagpur-Chandrapur expressway, spanning 194.36 km, is projected to cost Rs 10,438 crore.
Similalry, the Bhandara-Gadchiroli Expressway, with a length of 97 km will be built with an investment of Rs 3,727 crore.
Connectors To Samruddhi Mahamarg
Officially named as ‘Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg,’ the 701-km expressway links the winter capital Nagpur to the financial hub Mumbai.
Currently, the longest expressway in the country, it traverses 10 key districts of the state and indirectly connects other 14 other, establishing a seamless connection between Maharashtra's eastern region and the economic mainstream western region.
Styled as ‘Samruddhi Mahamarg’ (Prosperity Corridor), the expressway connects economic hubs, including the country’s largest container port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai and the upcoming international airport in Navi Mumbai.
It's worth noting that the Maharashtra government has proposed developing additional connectors or access-controlled expressways to connect major districts in the state to the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg.
In pursuit of this, MSRDC has already initiated the bidding process for six packages for the construction of the Jalna-Nanded expressway.
Spanning 179.85 km, the Jalna-Nanded expressway commences at Jalna on Samruddhi Mahamarg, running southwest through Jalna, Parbhani, and Nanded districts, ultimately terminating on the Nanded-Deglur-Telangana NH 161.
This expressway will offer direct and expedited connectivity for Nanded, Hingoli, Parbhani, and Jalna districts to the state capital Mumbai and onward to the JNPT.
