Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the new metro line to Old Gurugram on 16 February.

The Gurugram metro extension project, approved by the Union cabinet on 7 June 2023, involves the expansion of the metro line from Huda City Metro station, now known as Millennium City Centre Metro station, to Cyber City.

Estimated to cost Rs Rs 5,452.72 crore, the 28.50 km elevated metro project will have 27 stations, including a 1.85 km Spur from Basai Village to Dwarka Expressway

Presently, there is no metro line catering to Old Gurugram. The new line aims to connect parts of new Gurugram (HUDA City Centre, Cyber Park, Hero Honda Chowk) with the older parts of the city (Sector 10, Ashok Vihar, Palam Vihar) and spur economic activity in the area, the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry said.

Further, the interchange with the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line at HUDA City Centre will provide direct connectivity to a large part of Gurugram with Delhi.

Moreover, it will seamlessly integrate with the Indian Railway station near Dwarka Sector 101 and in the next phase with IGI Airport.

On 25 January this year, the Haryana government had approved the formation of the Gurugram Metro Rail Ltd, which shall be jointly owned by the Haryana government and the Government of India to execute the metro extension project.

The agency has initiated pre-construction activities, including geotechnical surveys and design consultations, with a proposed completion timeline of four years from the project's sanction date.
