Natural gas pipeline.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has proposed to develop a 425-km pipeline to cater to the natural gas requirement in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
In pursuit of this, the PNGRB, empowered to invite tenders for the installation of gas pipelines nationwide, has initiated the public consultation for the construction of the Kochi-Thoothukudi (formerly Tuticorin) pipeline.
The proposed pipeline will start from Petronet LNG Limited (PLL) import terminal at Kochi in Kerala and end at Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu via Kanyakumari.
It will be connected to Indian Oil's Ennore-Tiruvallur-Bengaluru-Puducherry-Nagapattinam-Madurai-Thoothukudi natural gas pipeline at Thoothukudi so that the gas can be further transported to major interconnecting pipelines in the country.
The pipeline will facilitate the supply of clean and environmentally-friendly natural gas to the southern India, thereby stimulating economic activities in the region, providing a cleaner and more efficient energy source for industries, businesses, and households.
This transition to cleaner energy sources aligns with the national commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development.
