Prime Minister Narendra Modi has applauded the new record of manufacturing 10,000 coaches since its inception by Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli in April 2023.
The Ministry of Railways took to Twitter on Thursday (4 May) to share that the Modern Coach Factory in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli has set a new record in April by manufacturing 10,000 coaches since its inception.
"Driven by excellence, Propelled by dedication! Modern Rail Coach Factory, Raebareli, a production unit of the Indian Railways, has set a new record by manufacturing 10,000 coaches in April 2023, since its inception," the Ministry of Railways said in a tweet.
Responding to the Ministry of Railways' tweet, PM Modi said, “Wonderful! This is a part of the efforts to boost ‘Make in India’ and strengthen the railways sector".
The Modern Coach Factory (MCF) was inaugurated in 2012 and the first completely in-house manufactured coach was turned out from the plant in August 2014.
Since then, MCF has almost doubled it’s production year by year, starting from 140 coaches in 2014-15, to 285 coaches in 2015-16, then 576 coaches in 2016-17 and first time achieving the given production target of 710 coaches by manufacturing 711 coaches in 2017-18.
In 2018-19, MCF turned out 1,425 coaches against a target of 1,422 coaches.
MCF also produced 1920 coaches in the year 2019-20. Inspite of Low Production rate due to Covid-19 lockdown, MCF produced 1,360 coches due to revised target in 2020-21.
Besides manufacturing stainless steel LHB coaches, as the name suggests, MCF is taking up new challenges of manufacturing modern day coach design, including train sets, metro coaches, aluminium body coaches, bullet train coaches and high speed coaches to meet upcoming demands, according to the MCF website.
