According to the performance reports of Indian Railways upto October 2023 in the current fiscal, the national public transporter is falling behind the target as compared to the last year.

As per the reports, punctuality of mail/express trains is 73.59 per cent till 31 October 2023, compared to 83.56 per cent in the last financial year 2022-23 during the same period — a deterioration of 10 per cent.

As far as the infrastructure progress is concerned, the report stated that new line/doubling/gauge conversion are 1,302.34 km till 31 October 2023 (new line: 186.65 km, gauge conversion: 96 km, doubling line: 1,019.69 km), compared to 1,728.55 km last financial year during same period (new line: 52.8 km, gauge conversion: 102 km, doubling line: 1,573.75 km), which is 24.7 per cent less than the last fiscal.
