Telangana State Government plans to set up 1,000 electric vehicle charging stations in the State to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly transportation.

According to Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO), a nodal organisation for installing electric vehicle infrastructure, the State government will give licenses to private vendors to build the infrastructure and staff charging stations.

The State government will also work with suppliers and manufacturers to install these charging stations under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The State Government has set the service cost cap at Rs 12.06 per kWh.

According to N Janaiah, MD of TSREDCO, as the EV population increases, the government prioritises enhancing infrastructure while considering future needs, as per reports of The New Indian Express.

The first 2 lakh electric two-wheelers and the first 5,000 electric four-wheelers would receive a 100 per cent exemption from road tax and registration fees, according to the State's Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Solution Policy 2020.

In the State, there are 32,000 electric vehicles on the road, and 156 EV charging stations are functional.

Anyone who owns a piece of land is welcome to contact TSREDCO about setting up EV charging stations.

They can lease their land to organisations and receive a monthly rent if they don't want to build their EV charging stations.
