Ahead Of 2022 Assembly Elections, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani Resigns

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday (11 September) resigned from his post.

The resignation comes over a year before the state heads to the polls at the end of 2022.

"I have resigned from the post of Gujarat Chief Minister," Rupani said to the mediapersons after meeting with Governor Acharya Devvrat, reports Desh Gujarat.

After announcing his resignation, Rupani thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and the people of Gujarat and said that he will take new responsibilities assigned to him by the party, reports Hindustan Times.

Rupani informed that party observers have arrived in the state and the decision on the name of the next Chief Minister will be taken by the party.

Rupani had been serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat since 7 August 2016 and is currently a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly representing Rajkot West.
